Every Saturday morning from May through the end of October, Culpeper's downtown comes alive with the weekly rhythm of a thriving farmers market. Starting at 7:30am and running through noon, this long-established market draws both serious home cooks looking for the week's produce and casual shoppers seeking the kind of quality you won't find in a conventional grocery store. The Culpeper Downtown Farmers Market has earned its reputation as one of the region's most robust weekly markets, with vendors returning season after season to serve a loyal customer base. What sets a farmers market apart from other vendor events is the direct relationship between grower and buyer. You'll find seasonal produce that actually tastes like something, from spring lettuce and asparagus through summer tomatoes and stone fruits, and into fall's apples, squash, and root vegetables. Beyond produce, the market supports local meat and dairy producers who often sell their own beef, pork, chicken, and eggs, along with cheese makers and yogurt producers. The baked goods section features everything from artisan bread to pastries, pies, and other made-to-order items that showcase what small-batch bakers can do. Handmade goods vendors round out the offerings, bringing crafts and value-added products that appeal to shoppers looking for something with personality. The market's May 2 start date marks the beginning of the growing season in Virginia, when the selection expands week by week. By June, the variety peaks with berries, greens, and early summer vegetables. Through July and August, you'll see the full spectrum of warm-season crops and peak attendance. Fall brings its own charm as vendors transition to cool-season crops and the summer crowds give way to a more focused group of regulars preparing for holiday cooking and preservation. This extended six-month run, from early May through October 31, 2026, offers vendors multiple entry points and allows customers to follow their favorite sellers through the whole season.
