Our story
How a $200 Necklace Turned Me Into a Jewelry Maker!
I've always been a fan of Clive Cussler's adventure novels, so naturally, I enjoyed the movie Sahara, starring Matthew McConaughey.
But while watching the movie, something caught my eye. No, it wasn't Matthew McConaughey's good looks or the beautiful scenery. It was the necklace he was wearing!
I thought, "Now that's a pretty cool necklace. I've got to get me one of those!"
So, like any curious guy, I jumped online and started searching. Sure enough, I found a similar necklace on Etsy.
The price? Over $200!
I about fell out of my chair!
Now, I'm all for paying for quality, but my curiosity got the best of me. I started researching the beads and materials to see what went into making one.
And wouldn't you know it? I discovered I could make the necklace myself for less than $25 apiece!
That's when I had one of those brilliant ideas that usually gets me into trouble.
"Heck, I'll just make one myself!"
So I ordered the materials, rolled up my sleeves, and made my very first necklace.
And here's where things took an unexpected turn.
I actually enjoyed it!
One necklace turned into another, then another. Before I knew it, I was experimenting with different colors, beads, and designs. Blues that reminded me of the ocean, earthy desert colors, and bold combinations that just seemed to say, "Let's go find an adventure!"
Somewhere along the way, my little experiment turned into Sahara Inspired Designs by Larry.
Today, I personally design and handcraft adventure-style necklaces for people who enjoy something a little different. Whether you're exploring the world or just heading out for dinner, I believe a great necklace should have a little personality.
And if you're wondering whether I ever bought that $200 necklace...
Nope! I was too busy making my own!
Thanks for stopping by my shop. I hope you find something that catches your eye, just like that necklace in the movie caught mine.
