Our story
Solar Rising Star is a small ceramics and pottery studio based in Warren, Rhode Island, created by Anita H. Childs. I make handcrafted functional pottery and decorative ceramic pieces inspired by sunlight, coastal New England, and the natural textures found along the Rhode Island shoreline. My work includes mugs, bowls, planters, serving dishes, vases, and small decorative pieces, each made by hand in small batches.
I have been working with clay for about eight years and began selling my pottery professionally five years ago. What originally started as a creative hobby quickly grew into something much bigger as friends, family, and local customers began asking to purchase my pieces. Since then, I have continued developing my own style while selling at local markets, seasonal events, and through small online releases.
What makes Solar Rising Star special is that no two pieces are exactly alike. I use a combination of wheel-thrown and hand-built techniques, along with layered glazes that create warm, earthy colors with occasional bright pops of gold, coral, blue, and cream. Small variations in shape, texture, and glaze are intentionally embraced, giving every piece its own personality.
My goal is to create pottery that feels beautiful but is also meant to be used and enjoyed every day. Whether it is a favorite morning coffee mug, a serving bowl brought out for family dinners, or a planter sitting in a sunny window, I want each Solar Rising Star piece to feel personal, cheerful, and a little bit special.
