Comparison
VendorsMap vs MarketSpread
An honest comparison for vendors and organizers. MarketSpread is a farmers-market management platform for organizers, with deep operations and compliance tools.
MarketSpread is an organizer-side management platform; it is not a vendor discovery tool. Vendors interact with it only when a market they already know uses it to take applications and payments. VendorsMap is a vendor-first discovery platform with an interactive map of every farmers market, craft fair, festival, and pop-up the team can verify, whether or not the organizer manages their event on VendorsMap. Browsing the map and applying is free for vendors; the optional $39.99/year Membership adds Scam Protection (up to $500 per claim), the weekly Application Library digest with AI-drafted starter answers, and member-only alerts.

VendorsMap is better if...
- You want one map of every market and event near you, not only the markets that happen to use one platform.
- You want to discover new markets to sell at, which a management tool like MarketSpread does not do.
- You'd rather pay a flat $39.99/year than nothing to browse, with protection and AI tools if you want them.
- You want Scam Protection that reimburses up to $500 per incident if a listed event turns out to be a scam.
- You sell at several event types and want farmers markets, craft fairs, festivals, and pop-ups in one place.
MarketSpread is better if...
- You run an established market that must collect and track vendor insurance and permit documents with expiration reminders today.
- You process SNAP, EBT, or Double Up Food Bucks tokens and need reimbursement reconciliation.
- You need in-person card payments (POS) at the market and text-message (SMS) blasts to vendors on market morning.
- Your market is deep into MarketSpread's back-office workflow and those compliance features are non-negotiable.
For organizers: running your event
MarketSpread is a mature, operations-heavy tool built specifically for running established farmers markets: vendor applications, a booth-map layout builder, invoicing, vendor attendance and check-in, document and insurance tracking, SNAP and EBT token reconciliation, in-person POS, and email plus SMS messaging. It is thorough, and for a compliance-heavy market it is a serious tool. VendorsMap covers the same core loop (applications, a drag-and-drop booth map, booth-fee collection, a vendor CRM, and 1:1 plus bulk messaging) and adds two things MarketSpread does not: it is free to list and manage your market, and the moment you list, your event and open booths are advertised to thousands of vendors already browsing our public map. MarketSpread manages the market you already have; VendorsMap manages it and helps fill it. The honest tradeoff today: MarketSpread has more back-office compliance depth (documents, tokens, POS), while VendorsMap is free, more modern, and the only one that also brings you vendors.

VendorsMap is better for organizers if...
- You want to list and run your market for free, paying only a small fee on booth payments you actually collect.
- You want vendors to discover your market and fill open booths, not just manage the vendors who already found you.
- You want a modern, fast interface and a free public booth map and vendor guide shoppers can actually use.
- You want honest vendor reviews building your market's reputation season over season.
Common questions
Is VendorsMap a replacement for MarketSpread?
For the core of running a market, yes: applications, a drag-and-drop booth map, booth-fee collection, a vendor roster, and 1:1 plus bulk messaging are all built in, and listing and managing your market is free. Where MarketSpread is still deeper today is back-office compliance: vendor document and insurance tracking, SNAP and EBT token reconciliation, in-person POS, and SMS. If those are essential to your market right now, MarketSpread has them and we are building toward them. What MarketSpread cannot do is put your market in front of thousands of vendors browsing for events, which is where VendorsMap is different.
How much does each cost for organizers?
VendorsMap is free to list and run your market; we take a 2% fee only on booth payments you collect through the platform. Optional Pro ($15/mo or $99/yr) and Expert ($39/mo or $299/yr) plans add reach and advanced tools. MarketSpread charges a payment-processing fee of 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction and prices its plans separately; check marketspread.com for current details.
Can I use both?
Yes. Some organizers run their day-to-day operations in one tool and still list on VendorsMap purely for the vendor reach, since being on the map is what fills open booths. Many vendors also discover a market on VendorsMap and then apply through whatever system that market uses.
