Our story
Dee Annette Domination Non-Profit Theater Co. creates transformative arts experiences for Black youth, youth with disabilities, and other underserved young people throughout the Pittsburgh region. We believe that every child deserves a safe space to be seen, heard, and empowered through creative expression.
Recent data from Allegheny County reveals that Black youth continue to be disproportionately impacted by the juvenile justice system. Although Black residents make up a small percentage of the county's population, Black boys represented nearly 78% of youth admitted to the county's juvenile detention facility between late 2024 and early 2025. These disparities highlight the urgent need for community-based programs that provide healing, mentorship, and opportunity rather than punishment.
Through theater arts, Dee Annette Domination helps young people build confidence, process difficult emotions, strengthen communication skills, and discover their unique voices. Our programs support youth navigating behavioral challenges, trauma, disabilities, and the social pressures that often place them at greater risk of justice involvement.
Each year, students take the lead in creating and producing original works while gaining hands-on experience in acting, technical design, stage management, sound and lighting operation, costume design, makeup artistry, and marketing through poster design. Productions such as Freedom and our annual Black History Month performances center the stories, talents, and perspectives of the youth we serve.
Dee Annette Domination has proudly partnered with organizations including Steel City Improv Theater, The Braddock Youth Project, CVK Suites, The Neighborhood Youth Outreach Program, Pittsburgh Learning Commons, and Pittsburgh Mennonite Church to ensure that young people across Pittsburgh have access to meaningful artistic opportunities that inspire resilience, leadership, and hope.
