Our story

Harper North Designs is my small batch jewelry business I started in 2013. My name is Carly and my business is named after my Mom who believed in me to start selling my jewelry full time after years of not knowing where I fit in, in the world. I grew up collecting amethyst and fossils.. a true rock hound! I started mixing my collections with jewelry making while on long road trips camping Michigan as a kid and I never stopped. I’m mostly self taught through magazines (lol) before the internet and YouTube. I make a mic of jewelry that is based on 5 styles. I have 3 sisters, myself, and my mom. I began making jewelry for them as gifts and it’s what gave me such a wide variety of designs! Harper North Designs is special because my jewelry combines natural materials, traditional handwork, and more than a decade of developing my own style. My collections include sliced geodes, soldered raw-edge agate and druzy, semi-precious natural stones, handwoven leather wrap bracelets finished with buffalo nickel buttons, minimalist layering jewelry, ear threaders, charm jewelry, birthstones, moons, and hand-stamped pieces. I use a variety of techniques including wire wrapping, soldering, hand stamping, cutting, texturing, and bead weaving. Many of my designs highlight the natural character of the stones, so no two pieces are exactly alike. My leather wraps can contain anywhere from 24 to 120 individually woven beads, while other pieces are intentionally simple and delicate for everyday layering. I originally began creating jewelry for my mom and three sisters, all of whom had very different styles. That idea has stayed with me, creating pieces that feel personal, wearable, and a little unexpected, whether someone is drawn to a tiny birthstone necklace, a moon, a stack of bracelets, or a one-of-a-kind natural geode.
